I am a qualified and awarded landscape architect with a masters degree (M.DesS (UD) from Harvard) and over 20 years of diverse urban design experience. I have worked in Sydney for 15 years, taking on large-scale, internationally significant sites such as the Sydney Olympic Park for the 2000 Olympics.
Since moving to Aotearoa/New Zealand I have continued my practice, specialising in multidisciplinary urban design. This involved large companies, such as the Te Atatu sector of SH16 in Auckland, as well as in private practice focusing on multi-unit housing, cycle networks, and infrastructure such as Haywards Interchange on SH2 out of Wellington.
I have used my extensive expertise to develop projects from concept, through detail development to implementation. For example, the Mapua Waterfront Park in Tasman. I’ve fostered a collaborative, inclusive approach amongst disciplines and community participants.
I have proven experience in blue skies thinking, planning, and assessment of future projects, such as the proposed Mt Victoria Tunnel schemes.
I continue to apply my professional skills and expertise to urban design review panels for City Councils in Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch. For example, I’m a member of the Wellington Waterfront Technical Advisory Group and have also reviewed plans for the Wellington Airport Development. I have been on Kapiti Coast Public Art Panel for 4 years and enjoy working with tangata whenua in this region.
I have been the Director of the Landscape Architecture programme at Victoria University and also held lecturing positions in Landscape Architecture at the University of NSW and Lincoln University. . This demonstrates my commitment to ongoing education and continual development of urban and landscape design professions.
I now actively advocate for design and living to embrace our current changing climate, critical emerging global issues and changing cultural values in Aotearoa. I develop designs that nurture our future by effectively using natural resources, water management and conservation strategies. This is in both the civic public domain and the special places of people’s homes.
